Tiger Woods’ Augusta Legacy Expands: A New 9-Hole Course and Learning Lab!

Tiger Woods’ impact on Augusta, Georgia, extends far beyond his five Masters Tournament victories. In a momentous announcement, Augusta National Golf Club revealed a significant partnership with Woods and his TGR Design firm. This collaboration will bring a brand-new nine-hole short course to the historic Patch, the former Augusta Municipal Golf Course. This location holds special significance, as it served as the training ground for many of Augusta National’s caddies.

The project isn’t solely focused on golf. Woods’ TGR Foundation will also establish its fourth TGR Learning Lab in Augusta. This lab will provide vital access to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education and other enriching opportunities for local students in Richmond County. Augusta National will generously fund the construction and ongoing operation of the learning lab.

Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley shared details of the partnership, highlighting the desire to solidify Woods’ lasting legacy in Augusta. The idea originated during a round of golf with Woods before the 2024 Masters, sparking a series of conversations that evolved into this comprehensive initiative. Ridley expressed excitement about both the new golf course and the educational impact of the learning lab.

Woods himself expressed his enthusiasm for this collaborative effort, emphasizing his commitment to education and golf. He highlighted the transformative potential of the project to empower the next generation and provide access to high-quality educational programs and affordable golf opportunities. The collaboration represents a significant investment in the future of the Augusta community.

The Patch renovation is already underway and will encompass a new driving range, short game facility, clubhouse, outdoor pavilion, and classroom spaces for educational programs. Woods’ nine-hole course, dubbed “The Loop at the Patch,” will be a key feature of the renovated property, which is now situated on Jim Dent Way, honoring the legacy of the former caddie and Senior PGA Tour champion. The course design will also incorporate elements that honor the original eleven holes.

Augusta National aims to open the renovated Patch to the public around next year’s Masters Tournament. The TGR Learning Lab is slated to open in 2028 at the site of a former elementary school. This multifaceted endeavor showcases a commitment to both preserving golf history and investing in the future of the Augusta community, a testament to Tiger Woods’ enduring influence on the game and beyond.
