PepsiCo’s Big Move: Ditching Artificial Ingredients by 2025!

In a significant move towards healthier food options, PepsiCo has announced plans to eliminate artificial ingredients from its popular products by the end of 2025. This decision comes on the heels of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s call for a ban on artificial ingredients, indicating a growing industry-wide shift towards natural alternatives.

PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta confirmed the news during an April 24th conference call, stating that the company is already well underway with the transition. He highlighted the removal of artificial colors from Lay’s and Tostitos chips as a key example, with the change expected to be complete by the end of 2025. Laguarta emphasized that over 60% of PepsiCo’s portfolio already excludes artificial colors, showcasing their commitment to healthier options.

This initiative follows the recent announcement by RFK Jr. and FDA Commissioner Dr. Martin Makary of a ban on petroleum-based synthetic dyes in the American food supply. The HHS outlined plans to establish national standards and timelines for the food industry’s transition to natural dyes, a move that is being widely praised by health advocates.

Certified nutritionist and ‘Make America Healthy Again’ supporter Liana Werner-Gray expressed her enthusiasm for this development, calling it a “huge win for public health and long overdue.” Werner-Gray, author of “The Earth Diet,” shared her personal experience eliminating artificial dyes from her diet, highlighting the positive impact on her health and the similar results reported by her clients. She believes that this FDA initiative is a crucial step toward restoring integrity to the food system and making clean, natural food the standard.

While PepsiCo assures consumers that their products remain safe, the company’s commitment to removing artificial ingredients signifies a positive trend within the food industry. The transition offers consumers more choices and aligns with the growing demand for healthier, naturally-sourced food options. The company’s proactive approach demonstrates a willingness to respond to public health concerns and adapt to changing consumer preferences.
