Future Husker: Trae Taylor, Top 2027 QB, Commits to Nebraska!

Nebraska football secured a major commitment for the future, landing four-star quarterback Trae Taylor for the 2027 recruiting class. Taylor, a highly touted prospect from Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois, announced his decision on Thursday, making him the first commit for the Huskers in that class.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound quarterback is considered one of the top passers in the 2027 class, showcasing impressive arm talent, accuracy, and footwork. His commitment is a significant win for Nebraska, especially given the early nature of the pledge. Taylor’s commitment comes roughly 20 months before he’ll be eligible to sign his National Letter of Intent.

Taylor’s decision comes after a lengthy recruitment process. He estimates visiting over 70 college campuses since attending camps as a sixth grader, receiving his first Division I offer from Maryland a year later. His impressive sophomore season, throwing for 3,061 yards, 20 touchdowns, and only 7 interceptions, solidified his position as a top recruit.

His choice of Nebraska over other prominent programs like Illinois, LSU, and Texas A&M highlights the appeal of the Husker program under coach Matt Rhule. A recent visit to Nebraska, where he met with quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas and starting quarterback Dylan Raiola, played a crucial role in his decision. Taylor expressed excitement about the Huskers’ pro-style offense and the opportunity to learn from Raiola and Thomas.

While he’s committed to Nebraska, Taylor’s recruitment isn’t entirely over. He plans to maintain contact with other programs and anticipates remaining a target for top schools including Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia. Despite the early commitment, Taylor’s talent and potential suggest a bright future for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
