Shedeur Sanders’ Number Revealed: A Browns QB Room Shake-Up?

The Cleveland Browns have announced the jersey numbers for their rookie class and free agents, and the highly anticipated Shedeur Sanders’ number has finally been revealed. He’ll be sporting number 12, a significant change from the number 2 he wore during his standout college career at Colorado.

This change is due to the Browns’ acquisition of wide receiver DeAndre Carter, who will wear number 2. Sanders’ draft day slide, a historic event in itself, saw him selected in the fifth round, a surprising turn of events given his pedigree and expectations. Fellow rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel will wear number 5, although the Browns did note that these jersey assignments are subject to change before the start of the 2025 season.

The Browns’ quarterback room is already packed with talent. The team also includes Deshaun Watson, whose status for the season is uncertain following a re-ruptured Achilles tendon, Kenny Pickett, acquired via trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, and Joe Flacco, signed to a one-year contract. With the addition of Gabriel and Sanders, the competition for the starting quarterback position is undeniably fierce, making this a storyline to closely watch.

While it remains to be seen if Sanders will keep number 12 throughout the season, it’s the number he’ll begin his NFL journey with. His presence, along with the other quarterbacks, guarantees a captivating battle for the starting role in Cleveland. The question on everyone’s mind is: Who will be under center for the Browns when Week 1 kicks off?
