Microsoft just dropped a major update to its Bing mobile app, and it’s a game-changer for anyone interested in AI-generated videos. They’ve integrated OpenAI’s impressive Sora text-to-video model, making it available for free to users. This means you can create short video clips using just text prompts, without needing a pricey ChatGPT Plus subscription.
This new feature, dubbed Bing Video Creator, is currently rolling out globally (excluding China and Russia) on Android and iPhone. Microsoft promises desktop and Copilot Search support is on the way. Access is easy; either use the menu in the bottom right corner of the Bing app or directly input your video description into the search bar.
The process is surprisingly straightforward. You can queue up to three video generations simultaneously, receiving notifications when they’re ready. Microsoft offers a ‘Standard’ generation speed (free for everyone) and a faster ‘Fast’ option. While 10 fast generations are free, subsequent fast generations require 100 Microsoft Rewards points each.
Currently, videos are limited to five seconds in a 9:16 vertical format, though 16:9 support is planned for the future. Generated videos are stored in the Bing app for up to 90 days, allowing you to download or share them on other platforms.
While the example videos released by Microsoft show some limitations in terms of smoothness and character detail—compared to polished examples from other AI video models like Google’s Veo 3—they represent a significant leap in accessibility. The quality is more reflective of what we experienced when Sora first launched, offering a realistic preview of the technology’s capabilities for the average user.
