OnePlus Pad 3: A Slim, Powerful Android Tablet Arrives

OnePlus has unveiled its latest tablet, the Pad 3, marking the first time a OnePlus tablet outside of China boasts the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. This isn’t just a minor upgrade; the Pad 3 features a significant jump in screen size to a spacious 13.2 inches, while maintaining a surprisingly slim profile of just 5.97mm. That’s thinner than the iPad Air, a remarkable feat given the powerful hardware inside.

While the display is an LCD rather than OLED, it compensates with a vibrant 144Hz refresh rate and a sharp 3.4K resolution. Paired with an optional keyboard and stylus, the Pad 3, running on Android 15, presents a compelling alternative to a laptop, especially for those who appreciate the flexibility of Android. The increased screen size does add a bit of weight (90g) compared to its predecessor, the Pad 2, but the overall thinner design helps mitigate this.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is supported by a generous 256GB of storage and either 12GB or 16GB of RAM. Powering this impressive setup is a sizable 12,140mAh battery, with 80W wired charging promising a full charge in just over an hour and a half. OnePlus has also refined the tablet’s aesthetic, replacing the previous generation’s somewhat jarring circular camera with a more streamlined pill-shaped module.

Software enhancements are equally noteworthy. OnePlus has improved its already popular multitasking features, providing streamlined split-screening and smoother drag-and-drop functionality. The integration with OnePlus phones is seamless, offering direct file sharing, smarter notification syncing, and a data-saving feature that leverages your phone’s connection only when necessary, potentially extending your phone’s battery life. Furthermore, the inclusion of O Plus Connect, previously seen on the Oppo Find N5, enables easy wireless file transfers between the tablet and both Mac and Windows PCs. Mac users get an additional advantage: direct remote control of their Mac from the Pad 3 itself, further solidifying its potential as a laptop replacement. OnePlus has committed to three generations of OS updates and six years of security support for the Pad 3.

The OnePlus Pad 3 is available for pre-order now in the UK and Europe, with a release date set for June 19th. Pricing starts at €599 / £529 (approximately $685) for the 12GB RAM model, increasing to €699 / £599 ($800) for the 16GB RAM variant. The Smart Keyboard and Stylo 2 are priced separately at €169 / £169 ($193) and €99 / £99 ($113) respectively. A US release is confirmed, but pricing details are yet to be announced.
