Paris Saint-Germain, fresh off their Champions League victory, are embarking on an ambitious project: building a brand-new stadium. CEO Victoriano Melero recently revealed that the club is drawing significant inspiration from the impressive state-of-the-art venues popping up across the United States, particularly SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The Parc des Princes, PSG’s current home, boasts a capacity of 48,000, but the club is looking to expand their horizons. Melero announced a year-long study to evaluate potential locations in Massy and Poissy, both situated near Paris. The goal? To create a multi-faceted entertainment complex, far exceeding the capabilities of a traditional football stadium.
SoFi Stadium, with its innovative design and capacity for both sporting events and large-scale concerts, serves as a key model. Melero explicitly cited the stadium’s ability to diversify revenue streams through entertainment as a major factor in their decision-making process. The stadium, home to the NFL’s Rams and Chargers, has already hosted major musical acts like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, showcasing its versatility.
The project’s scale is truly ambitious. SoFi Stadium, with its $5 billion price tag and location within the rapidly developing Hollywood Park, represents a significant benchmark. Its proximity to the equally impressive Intuit Dome, the NBA arena, further underscores the potential for integrating sports and entertainment.
While the new stadium is still in the planning phase, PSG’s commitment to innovation is clear. The club’s success extends beyond the field, and they are leveraging their global reach, including their significant American fanbase and partnerships like the Air Jordan collaboration, to fuel their expansion. Arctos Partners, a US-based firm, holds a 12.5% stake in the club, further highlighting the American influence on PSG’s future ambitions. The club’s current valuation of $4.4 billion speaks volumes about their potential for growth.
For the foreseeable future, Parc des Princes will remain PSG’s home. However, with a clear vision and inspiration drawn from American sporting giants, the club is poised to create a new landmark for football and entertainment in Paris.
