Windows 11’s Hardware Indicators Get a Much-Needed Upgrade!

Microsoft is rolling out a welcome change for Windows 11 users: the ability to reposition those pesky volume and brightness indicators. Currently, these pop-ups appear in the bottom center of the screen, often obstructing open applications. This can be particularly annoying when you’re working on something that requires full screen real estate.

But fear not, multitasking masters! A new feature, currently being tested in the Windows 11 Dev Channel, allows users to move these indicators to either the top-left or top-center of the screen. This simple adjustment offers a significant improvement in workflow and screen clarity. While the top-right corner remains unavailable (likely to avoid interference with window controls), the new options provide much-needed flexibility.

This helpful tweak is bundled with another interesting addition: a new Recall homepage. This feature displays your top three recently used apps and websites, making it easier to jump back into your previous tasks. The Recall homepage also shows recent snapshots and boasts a new left-side navigation bar for easy switching between the home interface and the Timeline feature.

Microsoft is currently testing both the indicator repositioning and the Recall homepage improvements with Windows Insiders. If the testing phase goes smoothly, expect to see these features rolled out to a wider audience in the coming months. This update demonstrates Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to improving the user experience in Windows 11, addressing user feedback and creating a more streamlined and efficient operating system.

Overall, these changes are small but significant. The ability to reposition those on-screen indicators is a much-requested feature, and the addition of the Recall homepage adds another layer of convenience to the Windows 11 experience. We’re excited to see what other improvements Microsoft has in store for future updates!
