Phil Collins’ Health Update: A Rep Addresses Hospitalization Concerns

Phil Collins’ rep has spoken out to ease concerns about the singer’s health following reports of his hospitalization. According to TMZ, the 74-year-old Genesis drummer is in the hospital for knee surgery, and his spokesperson assures fans there’s no cause for alarm.

This news comes amidst a period of mourning in Hollywood, following the recent passing of several prominent figures, including Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Ozzy Osbourne, and Hulk Hogan. The timing of Collins’ hospitalization understandably led to speculation on social media, prompting his representatives to clarify the situation.

While Collins has largely withdrawn from the public eye since his final Genesis performances in 2022, his health has been a subject of ongoing interest. His decision to perform seated during those final shows, with his son Nic Collins taking over on drums, was attributed to the lasting effects of a 2007 spinal injury. He also manages type 2 diabetes.

Collins’ recent health struggles have been previously discussed. In a February interview with MOJO Magazine, he revealed he’d faced significant health challenges in recent years, stating, “I’ve been sick. I mean very sick.” These health issues have influenced his decision to step back from creating new music, admitting he’s no longer driven by the same creative ambitions.

The singer’s spinal injury, initially addressed with surgery in 2009, resulted in prolonged numbness in his fingers, hindering his ability to play drums. A second spinal procedure in 2015 improved his mobility, but drumming remained challenging, limiting him to using only his right hand. Despite these limitations, he participated in Genesis’ farewell tour, which ended in October 2022.

A 2024 documentary, *Phil Collins: Drummer First*, showcased Collins’ candid reflections on his drumming career and his health concerns. He confessed to the shock of losing his drumming capabilities and expressed his preference to focus on his well-being rather than pushing himself beyond his physical limitations.

Collins’ career has spanned decades, beginning with his drumming career at the age of three and his joining of Genesis in 1970. He eventually became the band’s frontman, achieving phenomenal success with an estimated 150 million albums sold worldwide. His legacy includes a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2010 and a Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in 2003. He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

While the recent hospitalization has reignited concerns, the clarification from his representative offers reassurance to his fans. The focus remains on his recovery and well-being as he navigates this period.
