USA and UK to Host Women’s World Cups in 2031 and 2035!

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced that the United States and the United Kingdom are set to host the Women’s World Cup in 2031 and 2035 respectively. This follows the closing of the initial bidding period, with only one expression of interest received for each tournament.

The United States, potentially in collaboration with other Concacaf nations such as Mexico, will likely secure the 2031 tournament. This decision comes after FIFA strategically excluded European nations from the 2031 bidding process, paving the way for a U.S. win. The 2031 tournament would mark the first time the Women’s World Cup has been held in the U.S. since 2003.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom, represented by the Football Associations of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, currently holds the sole valid bid for the 2035 tournament. This bid received immediate support from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer upon its announcement. The UK’s successful bid builds on their recent hosting of the Women’s European Championship in 2022 and their upcoming co-hosting of the men’s Euro 2028.

While Spain had previously expressed interest in bidding, possibly alongside Portugal and Morocco, Infantino’s announcement suggests that their bid will not proceed. The final confirmation of both host nations is expected from FIFA next year. The 2027 Women’s World Cup, featuring 32 teams, will be held in Brazil. This exciting news promises further growth and global recognition for women’s football.
