The situation prompted a large-scale search effort, involving over forty rescuers and a Department of Public Safety helicopter which even spotted mountain lions in the area. The search lasted sixteen hours before a breakthrough occurred.
It was a rancher’s loyal dog, Buford, who played a pivotal role in the rescue. Scottie Dunton, the rancher, discovered Boden safe and sound on his property, accompanied by Buford. According to Dunton, his dog had apparently guided the lost toddler across the treacherous landscape. The boy explained that he had rested under a tree during his journey. Amazingly, Boden was unharmed despite the considerable challenges of his adventure.
Dunton, who had heard about the missing child earlier that morning, was understandably astonished. He recounted the moment he saw Buford leading the toddler, and the relief that washed over him. He traced Boden’s steps and confirmed Buford had been instrumental in guiding the boy for at least a mile. Buford, an Anatolian Pyrenees, is known for patrolling the land and protecting it from coyotes, but this act of bravery went above and beyond his usual duties.
